Title: INSTITUTE BORNEO STUDIES WON SDG ICON LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2023
On 19th June 2023, Institute Borneo Studies (IBS) University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) was selected by APPGM-SDG to receive the SDG Icon Leadership Awards 2023 in The 2nd Malaysian Sustainability Leadership Summit, jointly organized by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI), The Economic Club of Kuala Lumpur (ECKL) and All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on SDG’s (APPGM-SDG) at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The APPGM-SDG gives the SDG Icon Leadership Awards to local organisations and grassroots champions who are actively participating in community work and also have completed projects addressing social, economic, and environmental issues at selected Parliamentary constituencies throughout Malaysia in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). APPGM chose IBS and nine other organisations to receive the SDG Icon Leadership Awards this year out of 164 different organisations around Malaysia that are also becoming APPGM-SDG Solution Providers (SP).
IBS has actively promoted Green Concept and philosophy, which encompasses the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through academic and non-academic learning (i.e., Research, Community development projects, seminars, Green Talks and workshops) at local and international levels. At UCSF, there are classes and seminars to disseminate the goals of Sustainable Development within the topics concerning “Nature, Society and Culture” to participating foreign and local students at UCSF as part of the university’s Green Agenda in promoting the Green Concept and Philosophy to the younger generation. In addition, IBS has been the solution partner of APPGM-SDG in the state of Sabah since 2020. The opportunity given to IBS by APPGM SDG is a milestone in implementing and achieving some of the goals of Sustainable Development.
